Why We Offer TMS
TMS is one of several powerful tools we offer at Austin Mind and Behavioral Health—but only when it fits. For patients facing treatment-resistant depression, it can help stimulate lasting change. Your care plan is carefully tailored based on your history, goals, and clinical presentation.

How does TMS work?
TMS boosts brain activity by improving the brain circuits involved in mood and anxiety regulation. The machine delivers magnetic pulses to the left side of brain thereby stimulating nerve cells that cause release of mood regulating neurotransmitters. This leads to improvement of mood, improved motivation and decrease of anxiety symptoms.
What to expect in a treatment session?

• Each TMS session is conducted in the clinic
• A single TMS session lasts around 15-30 minutes
• The typical TMS schedule is 36 sessions over a period of 5-6 weeks
• All sessions are supervised by a trained clinician.
The sessions are conducted in a comfortable treatment chair, where a magnetic coil is placed on your head. You will remain awake and alert during the session. The coil generates a pulsating magnetic field, stimulating the target areas within the brain. The magnetic field generates a noticeable ticking sound. Many patients will also notice a tingling sensation on their scalp. There is no medication used in the TMS treatment.
